Lake Toxaway Estates
The Lake Toxaway area originally received its claim to fame for The Greystone Inn (previously known as The Toxaway Inn). Originally built in 1903, the Toxaway Inn hosted some of the world’s most influential people including Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, J.D. Rockefeller, R.J. Reynolds, Thomas Edison, and the Vanderbilt family. However, after heavy flooding Lake Toxaway’s dam collapsed, and would stay in ruins for over the next fifty years. It wasn’t until R.D. Hennish bought the 9,000 acres of land, and decided to rebuild the dam that had drawn visitors for generations.
That 9,000 acres purchased in 1963 is now Lake Toxaway Estates. Surrounded by more than 9,000 acres of wilderness areas and mountain peaks rising to more than 4,700 feet in elevation, Lake Toxaway is truly a community thats stands on its own. Approximately 1,100 home sites ranging in size from 20-acre camps to half-acre lots are available. With over 14 miles of shoreline and spanning 640, Lake Toxaway is in fact the largest private lake in North Carolina.
