Lake Toxaway Estates

The Lake Toxaway area originally received its claim to fame for The Greystone Inn (previously known as The Toxaway Inn).  Originally built in 1903, the Toxaway Inn hosted some of the world’s most influential people including Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, J.D. Rockefeller, R.J. Reynolds, Thomas Edison, and the Vanderbilt family.  However, after heavy flooding Lake Toxaway’s dam collapsed, and would stay in ruins for over the next fifty years.  It wasn’t until R.D. Hennish bought the 9,000 acres of land, and decided to rebuild the dam that had drawn visitors for generations.

That 9,000 acres purchased in 1963 is now Lake Toxaway Estates.  Surrounded by more than 9,000 acres of wilderness areas and mountain peaks rising to more than 4,700 feet in elevation, Lake Toxaway is truly a community thats stands on its own.  Approximately 1,100 home sites ranging in size from 20-acre camps to half-acre lots are available.  With over 14 miles of shoreline and spanning 640, Lake Toxaway is in fact the largest private lake in North Carolina.  Including the myriad streams, ponds, and rivers gives Toxaway a total 720 acres of fishable freshwater. Unlike so much of the country that is over fished, Toxaway still offers the excitement of discovering “fishing spots” as well as unknown streams.  This undisturbed habitat provides plentiful numbers of both large and small mouth bass, giant catfish, walleye, rainbow trout, brook trout, and brown trout.

In addition to the world class outdoor activities, residents have access to a playground and soccer field, 40 acres of open space known as The Meadow, and The Pavilion, an open-air arena where monthly music events are held during the summer season. These amenities and more than 27 miles of private roads within the estates are maintained by the Lake Toxaway Community Association.  Approximately 125 families are permanent year-round residents; many of our seasonal residents come from Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Access to the lake and marina—as well as membership at Lake Toxaway Country Club—are limited to property owners.

Throughout the last decade LTCC has undergone many major upgrades.  In July of 2018 the Clubhouse underwent a complete renovation; “a new casual grille with inside and outside walk-up bar service, expanded covered patio seating with spectacular lake and golf course views and a main ballroom with a large gable window and covered porch with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains” (laketoxawaycc.com). In 2008 the 18-hole championship golf course underwent a 9-million-dollar renovation project led by noted architect Kris Spence.  The course’s new design provides for a truly unique and challenging experience that rivals any golf course in Western North Carolina. The Estates community is about 5,000 acres in size with about 875 property owners, and 700 homes.

A self-proclaimed “mountain meadowland,” Pinchot awes even the most selective of clients upon entering the gate.  Once inside Pinchot the seclusion afforded by large lots ensures a peaceful retreat no matter the season. Lot sizes range from two to 14 acres, and bespoke mountain estates deliver countless opportunities to buy or build your future dream home.  This coupled with underground utilities, paved roads, and a community gathering areas with an outdoor fireplace overlooking the town of Cashiers, with Whiteside Mountain, Chimney Top Mountain, and Rock Mountains in the distance.
